Online Arts Therapy
online Arts Therapy is the use of telecommunication technologies such as real-time video conferencing, phone or email to provide
creative arts therapy to clients.
Online sessions are conducted via Zoom; For more information about Zoom go to https://zoom.us
HOW DO TELEHEALTH SESSIONS DIFFER FROM FACE TO FACE THERAPY?
If using Zoom you will need an electronic device with a camera and microphone, internet connection and if using arts processes also some basic art materials.
Headphones/ earbuds are recommended to ensure good sound quality and address privacy issues.
You are not permitted to video or audio record the consultation, unless I have given permission to do so.
Try to chose a room/space where you will not be disturbed or distracted
HOW DOES A TELEHEALTH ARTS THERAPY SESSION RUN ?
Telehealth Arts Therapy offers another dimension to the interaction.
At times it can be difficult, frustrating and exhausting to communicate through talking alone online. Creating art work together throughout the sessions provides breaks from the intense screen interaction. Many people find that working on a piece while online helps to ground and calm them.
As in a face to face sessions, online arts therapy offers the opportunity to explore and express your experiences and emotions through images, not just words. Your concerns and goals will be explored through artistic or creative means such as drawing, painting, drama, writing or visual art. I may also offer suggestions or themes for you to explore.
You may include a support person with you, as you might in a face-to-face consultation.
You will need a large table or desk space to fit your electronic device, art work and materials. Or two spaces set up side by side
Art materials will be used but if you don't have any available simple paper and pen will do. You can use any art materials available to you such as crayons, pencils, pens, paints, play-dough, wire, fabric, magazines or almost anything you can find laying around.
We can also work without materials using other processes such as movement, writing, play, drama, sound or music. You could bring in musical instruments, music, photographs or video clips.
Connecting online offers opportunities to watch or create clips, share art works between
sessions and utilise digital resources.
