Mindfulness can be described as a moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness of present events.
I have practiced and learnt mindfulness techniques for years now and have found it to be life changing.
There are many benefits to mindfulness, here are just a few;
* increase ability to regulate emotions,
* help to focus attention,
* increase ability to observe thoughts and feelings without judgment.
* improve mind health by reducing stress and anxiety and increasing focus.
*improve physical health by strengthening physiological responses to stress and negative emotions and thereby improving immune system,
* increase ability to cope with chronic physical pain.
* develop a more resilient mind
* increase ability to sit with and manage difficult thoughts and emotions without becoming overwhelmed
* develop a more open and stable state of mind
* improve relationships and communication with others
* increase sense of empathy and compassion.
MINDFULNESS-BASED ART THERAPY (MBAT)
Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy combines forms of mindfulness and art making therapeutically.
Mindfulness teachings, guided meditations, and sensitive exploration of the images are used in combination.
In the process we can develop a patient, open and non-judgemental response to both the mindfulness and the art-making practice.
MBAT can be an easy and engaging way to practice mindfulness.
I have found it can be hard for some people to learn mindfulness techniques when starting out. Utilising arts processes as a point of focus often makes it easier, especially for those new to mindfulness or those that have a particularly busy mind or body.
These sessions may take place in either group or individual sessions.
